About the Job
We are seeking a motivated and customer-focused Automotive Service Writer to join our service team. In this role, you will act as the key liaison between customers and technicians, ensuring a smooth, transparent, and efficient repair process from check-in to vehicle delivery. You will be responsible for understanding customer concerns, recommending appropriate services, preparing estimates, and keeping customers informed throughout the repair process.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Welcome customers and provide a professional, friendly service experience.
  • Listen to customer concerns and accurately document vehicle issues.
  • Perform vehicle walkarounds to identify visible maintenance and repair needs.
  • Create detailed and accurate repair orders, estimates, and invoices.
  • Recommend services based on manufacturer guidelines, vehicle condition, and technician input.
  • Clearly explain repair recommendations, pricing, and timelines to customers.
  • Coordinate daily workflow with automotive technicians and service staff.
  • Provide timely updates to customers regarding repair status, delays, or additional work needed.
  • Obtain customer approval before performing any additional repairs or services.
  • Review completed repairs with customers and explain all work performed.
  • Address customer questions, concerns, and complaints in a professional manner.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure all documentation is completed properly.
  • Follow all shop policies, safety standards, and industry regulations.
  • Support customer retention through excellent communication and follow-up.

Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in automotive service, dealership, repair shop, or customer service preferred.
  • Strong understanding of automotive systems, maintenance, and repair terminology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to explain technical information in a clear and customer-friendly manner.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer proficiency and experience with service management software is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Preferred Experience:
  • Prior experience as a Service Advisor or Service Writer.
  • ASE certification or automotive technical training.
  • Familiarity with dealership or independent shop management systems.
  • Knowledge of manufacturer maintenance schedules.

Work Environment:
This position is based in a automotive repair facility. It involves frequent interaction with customers, technicians, and service staff, as well as movement between the service counter, waiting area, and shop. Occasional exposure to noise, tools, and automotive fluids may occur.
